Since 2016, Republican officials have increasingly embraced "aggressive institutional tactics" - aggressive gerrymandering, court-packing at the state level, and efforts to subvert election results.
In response, some Democratic leaders have begun adopting similar norm-breaking tactics of their own, including partisan redistricting (e.g., the 2024 California redistricting initiative), expanding state supreme courts, and refusing to seat or certify GOP candidates in local jurisdictions.
